iPhone Software 1.1.2

iPhone Software 1.1.2
UPDATE (2007.11.12): It is now available through iTunes. Connect your iPhone, launch iTunes, and “Check for Update”.

There is no radically new features added in iPhone Software 1.1.2 which is now made available on Apple’s software download server.

Custom ringtones are separated from standard ones.
PLUS: You can use the .m4r method to add your own custom ringtones to the iPhone.

How to add your own custom made ringtones to the iPhone:

  • You need iTunes 7.5 and iPhone Software 1.1.2
  • Encode the file into 128kbps AAC, smaller file size is preferred. I use GarageBand to edit and convert the audio file.
  • Rename the file extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”; for Mac OS X “Get Info” the file, then change the extension name there.
  • Add the now “.m4r” file into iTunes, preferably have iTunes to copy the files into the library.
  • Connect your iPhone, go to the “Ringtones” tab, and check the ringtones you want to send to the iPhone.

There is now iPhone battery indicator on iTunes (tested using iTunes 7.5).

Right after iPhone Software Update or Software restore, the iPhone is flashing “Slide to Unlock” in different languages (French and German).

  2. I did the ringtone thing, and they do not appear in the ringtone tab…bummer.

    First, you need iTunes 7.5.
Second, it has to be encoded in 128kbps AAC.
Third, make sure that the actual extension is changed to .m4r; if you’re using Windows, make sure that you enable the “show file extensions”.
Open a window, tools, folder options, view, UNCHECK “hide extensions for known file type”. Only then you can see if the extension is changed to .m4r.
Fourth, if you have a copy of the same file in the iTunes library, REMOVE IT.

Let me know if this works.

  3. I tried it and it worked fine. Took me a while to figure out how to edit the song in Garage band but then it is pretty straight forward. Just “share” the song to save in the m4a format then change to m4r in the “get info” window. Use ITunes to add to library. Only thing I noticed is I could not save as a name other than”ringtone one” etc.

  4. this works great and is just what i was waiting for i used to make ringtones for my old phone in garageband so this is awesome that i can do it again. When you save the file in garage band you can name it anything you want as well as changing the artist name and album when you say share->send song to itunes and it lets you change all of those and still work good!

  5. I live in Nepal and there aren’t many iPhone users here. The Problem in using a iPhone here is if the software is updated, the phone is permanently locked i.e. no network coverage. The carrier fails to show available network. I found out that the version 1.1.2 is the only version that works over here. I hope it works. I’m afraid after that the phone might not install previous version after a latest version is installed on the phone.
