The current developer preview of Snow Leopard (Build 10A380) is incompatible with Apple Remote Desktop Admin.
This is because the built-in client in Snow Leopard is version 3.3 and the current shipping version is 3.2.2.
Now pointlessly enhanced with AI

this be some bullshiat
Grr. This more or less prevents me from using this build of Snow Leopard on a day-to-day basis.
The current Snow Leopard build has newer ARD client.
tried to replace the client with 3.2.2, reinstalled ard admin, etc.
No dice
Come on Apple. this is your software!!
This is Snow Leopard Developer Beta. It is not ready for “production” machine. You should know that before you’re installing any beta software especially an Operating System.
Apple will update Apple Remote Desktop (Admin and Client) in the next few months.
One accepts that this is a trial build, but in order to test it we really
need to be able to run in as near a production mode as possible, else
trying Snow Leopard requires specially booting into that image. Faults in a beta release are more likely to show up if people run it in their usual operational mode. So, if we need to use Remote Desktop, then
we are excluded from making an effective contribution to improving Snow Leopard
how does one use apple remote desktop 3.3 in Snow Leo? I cannot find it anywhere
I can’t help but imagine genuine developers who PAY for access to Apple’s beta software are permitted to test dev builds of ARD admin…
All I can disclose to you is that Apple Remote Desktop Admin is not included with Snow Leopard. Expect ARD update in the coming months.
Some good arguments and more information can be read in than you may think from that which is above. ADC is looking mighty tasty… 🙂
Are there any other clients that can connect to machines with remote desktop running?
Answering my own question…
If you turn on VNC on the remote computer you can connect using a VNC client like Chicken of the VNC (Free).
Even better if you have a look in /System/Library/CoreServices you will find an app called ‘Screen Sharing.app’
Launch it, pop in the remote computers IP address, enter the login details and you’re away.
Pretty cool and free.
That is sweet.. so now I dont have to pay $599usd for the full package..
Hi, I bumped into the same problem today and seemed that whats needed to make ARD activate was to get rid of the ARD client.
I got around this issue by deleting all ARD related files in “/library/receipts” and all files in “/System/LIbrary/CoreServices/RemoteManagement”.
After a reboot install ARD3 again and it shouldn’t come up with the error and ARD boots up fine.
If you need that machine to be an ARD client as well you may need to install that later. But just to remote desktop into other computers this should be enough.
Hopefully its a useful info 🙂
“Good News Everyone!”
Apple Remote Desktop Admin 3.3 and Client 3.3.1 are released. It now supports Snow Leopard.
i want conon movie tranfer software
I just got off phone with Apple Sales and felt like I was talking in circles, very frustrating and totally unclear if snow leopard has a remote desktop service built in or if we truely need Apple’s RDC 3.3. Further, there is no trial edition to see if the RDC 3.3 is worth the effort, you just have to hope it works the way you expect. This service has been offered in windoze xp since about 2002, with 2011 nearing, I would expect apple to be up to speed. Whatever Apple.
Apple Remote Desktop client is part of the OS. Apple Remote Desktop Admin is for managing other Macs
