I upgraded my MacBook Pro hard drive to fresh install Mac OS X Leopard along with iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. I opted to get Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache notebook hard drive. I could have gotten a 500GB hard drive, but it is running at 5400RPM and only has 8MB cache.
- Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue 2.5 SATA II 5400 RPM 8MB (WD5000BEVT)
- Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Black 2.5 SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB (WD3200BEKT)
I also need to get an external SATA FireWire/USB/eSATA enclosure or dock for the old hard drive.
- Macally PHR-250CC Hi-Speed FireWire/USB2.0 External Storage Enclosure for 2.5″ SATA HDD
- Thermaltake BlacX eSATA Hard Drive USB Docking Station
My favorite 2.5-inch SATA hard drive enclosure with FireWire is none other than OWC Mercury On-The-Go. It is a little bit pricey, but by-far it has been the best enclosure I ever have.
