Slayer: One, Final World Tour

Slayer:

“The End is Near… Slayer to make its exit with one, final world tour.”

The news is not a surprise to me, but I still feel sad about it.

Half of Slayer left in the band, with the passing of Jeff Hanneman and firing of Dave Lombardo. Even though Kerry King and Tom Araya still reigning on the road with the help of Paul Bostaph and Gary Holt; it doesn’t feel the same.

The last time I saw all four Slayer onstage and backstage was at Long Beach Arena, August 30, 2010. That was the last time I said hi to Jeff Hanneman, who later had to take a leave of absence due to necrotizing fasciitis on his arm. I saw Slayer a few times with Gary Holt standing in for Hanneman. Then comes the firing of Lombardo from the band following the death of Hanneman. At that time I thought that Slayer would have made their exit.

Over the last ten years, I had been hearing from Tom Araya talking about his reluctance on touring. One thing for sure, if Tom Araya decided to quit, that would be the end of Slayer.

There is one wish for me to see Slayer on stage one last time with all living band members, current and former. One can only dream.

Slayer, Yestercon and Lazy Game of Thrones

First off, it seems that the people at HBO is getting a bit lazy, they did not even bother entering the correct title for Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 4. The title is ” The Spoils of War”, but it was left as “Game of Thrones 64” at HBO NOW and HBO GO.

On that note, Scott Ian, please stop trying to post the spoilers to the episode.

…well, we’re glad that you did not. Unfortunately someone is spoiling it for the rest of us who had not seen the episode yet.

(plug ears and yell: “La la la la la la la la la la la la………”

Earlier today, we were at Yestercon, which ended earlier than schedule; there were reports that someone called in a bomb threat. Carson Sheriff immediately secured and evacuated the area. We took a drive around after leaving evacuating Yestercon and saw the Sheriff at work. The photos were screenshots captured by the dash cam.

It takes one to ruin it for the many.

By the way, our good friend Carlos Alazraqui was at the Yestercon. He then revisit Carson City, talking about RENO: 911! shooting locations.

On Saturday night, Slayer played at The Forum in Inglewood. As usual, it’s Slayer and the slew!

We were lucky enough to hang backstage the last time all four Original Slayer members played in Long Beach Arena during American Carnage Tour, August 30, 2010.

OK, now back to watching Game of Thrones, again.

Jeff Hanneman, 1964 – 2013

Jeff Hanneman, guitarist of seminal band Slayer died at 49 on Thursday May 2nd, 2013.

Statement from Slayer:

OUR BROTHER JEFF HANNEMAN, MAY HE REST IN PEACE (1964 – 2013)

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

The last time I saw Jeff Hanneman and his wife off-stage was backstage at one of their shows months before the spider-bite incident.

UPDATE:

From Slayer.net:

Los Angeles Times don’t know who Slayer vocalist is.

UPDATE 2013-02-23:
Los Angeles Times finally noticed the error and changed the caption to:

Los Angeles Times apparently don’t know who Slayer vocalist is (screen capture below). According to L.A. Times Randy Blythe is the vocalist of Slayer instead of Tom Araya. Well, unless L.A. Times knew that Araya had been replaced by Blythe in Kerry King Project.

Randy Blythe is the vocalist of Lamb of God.

Kerry King Project

Early in February 2013, Kerry King was talking about the next Slayer album:

“I’m very comfortable saying that it will be out this year.”

Slayer fans, don’t get your hopes up just yet. The status quo have changed since the news of Dave Lombardo being benched from Slayer Australian 2013 Tour broke on Thursday February 21, 2013.

Jeff Hanneman is still recovering from necrotizing fasciitis and most likely won’t be contributing to the next Slayer record as of yet.

“I have enough material on my own if need be, but I’m open,” King says. “If Jeff comes to the party with some new material, hell ya! I will play all the guitars. I’ve been playing all the guitars for years anyway, except for Jeff’s leads.”

Perfect for Kerry King Project, with Tom Araya on vocals and bass.

Slayer responds to Dave Lombardo

Slayer has responded to Dave Lombardo’s post regarding his outage from Australian Tour 2013.

Slayer confirms that Jon Dette (Testament) will drum for the band on its Australian tour that starts this Saturday, February 23 in Brisbane.

As regards Dave Lombardo’s Facebook post, Slayer does not agree with Mr. Lombardo’s substance or the timeline of the events, except to acknowledge that Mr. Lombardo came to the band less than a week before their scheduled departure for Australia to present an entirely new set of terms for his engagement that were contrary to those that had been previously agreed upon.

Umm, by saying Slayer, it is Kerry King.

Slayer is grateful to its Australian fans for their understanding of this unfortunate last-minute change, and very much looks forward to seeing them at these shows.

Translation: “Come see two original members of Slayer plus Gary holt of Exodus and former drummer of Slayer playing Slayer songs.

Kerry King can’t afford to lose Tom Araya. Should Araya leave Slayer, then it would be KKP; Kerry King Project.
