Apple confirms “March of the iPad 3” event.

The Loop reports that Apple announces iPad event for March 7 in San Francisco.

“We have something you really have to see. And touch.”

We received the words back in December 2011 that the next iPad which is expected to carry the name iPad 3 would be coming in March 2012. According on a source who claimed to have a firstname@apple.com email:

  • iPad 3 display has double the horizontal and vertical resolution, but the term “Retina Display” was not even mentioned once.
  • iPad 3 would be compatible with the current Smart Cover.

Key Apple employees are currently in Foxconn China factory, according to various sources.

As usual, we will be aggregating links to sites who would be providing live report from the event.

Well, it’s just a bad WordPress installation.

This site went semi-offline earlier today thanks to a bad installation of WordPress.org nightly build. At first it seemed the WordPress install was having trouble connecting to the MySQL database. I really thought I had to restore the MySQL database from the backup.

I have decided to keep 37prime.news on the official release instead of living on the edge. Lesson learned.

Recovering from Windows Home Server failure.

I spent good portion of Friday and Saturday recovering data from a failed Windows Home Server. I get better understanding on what really happened. Apparently One of the hard drive was having trouble and in turn brought the whole storage pool down. Insufficient RAM on HP MediaSmart also a contributing factor to the failure. Having the system paging the hard-drive constantly might cause the drop in performance.

Anyway, I managed to recover the data by mounting the hard drive on another computer. There’s a hidden “DE” folder where all the files are stored.

I have recovered 90% of the data and that’s enough to calm everyone at the office down. Having a dual T1 line doesn’t really help downloading 300GB back from off-site backup in time. As a matter of fact I’ll be ordering a new and much faster connection on Monday.

In addition to that I have ordered a Synology DS712+ so I can have backup of the backup for this particular office.

The trouble with Apple ID.

An associates told us about the trouble with his Apple ID for the past 24 hours. He was unable to log-on to any Apple services that requires Apple ID such as iTunes Store, iCloud and most importantly Apple Developer site.

He said that he was able to reset the password through iforgot.apple.com, but a minute later the account was disabled again. So he contacted Apple and had them investigated if there were any suspicious activities on his account. So far they found no suspicious activities  on iTunes Store and iCloud.

Some tips for account security:

  • Have a good password, generally minimum of 8 characters including numbers, characters, lower case and uppercase alphabets.
  • Good security question that is not easily guessable.
  • Know what your alternate emails are.

Example of bad security question and answer:

Q: What is the name of my first high school.
A: Polk High

Your high school friends know this fact. Unless you’re completely lying on the answer.
