It is not entirely a surprise for HP to spin-off its PC and Printer divisions. Back in 2011, then HP CEO Leo Apotheker was looking into selling off its PC unit. After appointing Meg Whitman as CEO, HP announced that it would keep its PC Division.

HP Computers and Printers are still selling, but does it really give HP good profit margins. Of course, its lucrative printer in business is still profitable; but for how long?

What’s with the Ad-Network, Microsoft?

Microsoft could easily use their own internal analytics instead of using AdNexus (adnxs.com). A lot of links on Microsoft homepage points to lib.adnxs.com that ultimately go back to microsoft.com pages.

I noticed this since I had 127.0.0.1’d lib.adnxs.com in the hosts file.

Windows 10 Preview

Windows 10 Preview is now available for download. Windows 10 Preview ISO is also available.

Follow these steps to download Technical Preview:

  • Sign up for the Windows Insider Program.
  • Read the system requirements.
  • Click one of the Download links on this page to download a special file—it’s called an ISO file—that you can use to install the preview.
  • When the download is complete, transfer the ISO file to installation media such as a DVD or USB flash drive.
  • Boot your PC from the installation media, and then follow the steps to perform a clean install.

Apple seeds iTunes 12.0 for OS X Yosemite to Developers on Thursday, October 2, 2014.

It is unclear if this particular build of iTunes were the release version or another beta. Previous release of iTunes 12.0 were clearly marked as beta.

Apple is expected to release OS X Yosemite sometimes in Mid to late October 2014.

Windows 10

Announcing Windows 10

From Microsoft:

In the Windows team, we’re proud of this – but we also know that the world today is very different from the one in which Windows grew up. Today, devices outnumber people. Connectivity is like oxygen. The tension between the desire for agility versus stability poses a huge challenge for IT Pros. Experiences – no matter what device you’re on – just need to work. The only thing that hasn’t really changed is the situation for developers – still too much to do, and not enough time.

One way to look at it is that Windows is at a threshold :-). It’s time for a new Windows. This new Windows must be built from the ground-up for a mobile-first, cloud-first world. This new Windows must help our customers be productive in both their digital work and their digital life. This new Windows must empower people and organizations to do great things.

Windows 8 is so two years ago. Here comes Windows 9.

That new Windows is Windows 10.

What?

Microsoft, you just skipped Windows 9.

OK, Windows branding and numbering system never made sense anyway. From Windows XP to Windows Vista to Windows 7. Then it went to 8. Why not call it Windows X, as in Roman numeral for 10? Maybe not, because it looks like that other Operating System with X in it, or that desktop shell called X Window System.

Tomorrow, we are excited to announce the Windows Insider Program, where PC experts and IT Pros can get access to a technical preview of Windows 10 for desktops and laptops. Soon after, we’ll also be releasing technical previews of Windows Server and our management tools.

OK, I’ll certainly be there tomorrow.

By the way, Windows 10 will finally get Multiple Desktop just like Linux and OS X.
