Thanks to the Wi-Fi hotspot feature on the Nexus One, I have Internet access on the road. Luckily AT&T has pretty good coverage where I am currently at right now. I have never been in this area before.
MPEG LA: The Hunt of VP8 Patent
MPEG LA Announces Call for Patents Essential to VP8 Video Codec
(DENVER, CO, US – 10 February 2011) – MPEG LA, LLC, world leader in alternative one-stop patent licenses, announces a call for patents essential to the VP8 video codec specification used to deliver video images. The VP8 video codec is defined by the WebM Project at http://www.webmproject.org.
One question to Google: “Would you indemnify anyone who uses webM?”
Uninspiring Thursday: iPhone 4 on Verizon and more on Bing versus Google.
I feel so uninspired even though there’s a lot of news today.
iPhone 4 on Verizon are available in stores.
It’s February 10, 2011. The launch day for iPhone 4 for Verizon. It feels like last week news though, just like the iOS 4.2.6 for CDMA iPhone 4. The firmware was made available in late January 2011.
Bing beats Google, so someone says.
Some Analysis firm says that Bing is better than Google. Then Google’s Matt Cutts responds.
Till next time.
Does Bing Copy Google’s Search Results?
UPDATE 2:
Microsoft’s Bing uses Google search results—and denies it
UPDATE:
Bing’s reply.
It’s the first day of February 2011 and the news are coming in. The first one that really caught my eye is Google’s accusing Bing of cheating by copying search results. It is not about the regular search results. It is about search with unusual misspellings.
Matt Cutts’ comment on Hacker News:
I had a front row seat for this test. I believe the experiment we ran provides conclusive proof. I’m on a panel with a representative from Bing later today and I’ll ask Bing about this directly.
I’m pretty sure Bing (read: Microsoft) could say that they want to give the users the best search results possible. If they did say that it means Bing would have admitted that Google is better. Bing could also say that they are not a mere search engine, they are Decision Engine.
Let’s see how this one goes.
Android 2.2.2 FRG83G for Nexus One.
I received an email from a colleague late last night:
Weird, my phone updated to 2.2.2 frg83g.
He is referring to his Nexus One receiving Froyo 2.2.2 OTA update. I have a Nexus One also, but I have yet received the Froyo 2.2.2 OTA update. As a matter of fact I’m anticipating Gingerbread 2.3 to be delivered to Nexus One based on the tweet by @googlenexus back in December 20th, 2010. One month in, and still no news about Gingerbread for Nexus One.
I could install a custom Android 2.3 firmware, but I am waiting for the official version.

Google: Page up, Schmidt somewhere else.
In a blog post, Eric Schmidt revealed the changes in Google’s top management starting April 4th, 2011. Google co-founder Larry Page will be taking over the role as CEO while Schmidt will be the “Executive Chairman” of the company.
What does the title “Executive Chairman” really mean?
As Executive Chairman, I will focus wherever I can add the greatest value: externally, on the deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership that are increasingly important given Google’s global reach; and internally as an advisor to Larry and Sergey.
Is it like having President and Prime Minister for the Country?
Is it like the Britain?
What changes would Larry Page brings to Google as CEO?
WebM QuickTime Component.
If you ever need to encode videos into WebM format, you can find the codec download at WebMProject.org.
I installed the WebM QuickTime component on my MacBook Pro and able to export to WebM format.
Currently I encode a lot of my videos into MPEG4 with h.264 codec.
