Google removes ad-blocking apps from Google Play.

It is apparent that Google is having a who-cares-about-the-users-Wednesday. After announcing that Google Reader to shut down on July 1, 2013; Google apparently removes ad-blocking apps from its Google Play Store for Android.

From Phandroid:

It’s hump day, but there’s no time for middle-of-the-week celebration if you’re the developer of ad-blocking software on Android. According to several sources, Google has started sending notifications to developers with ad-blocking software in the Google Play Store regarding these apps’ removal. Players like AdBlock, AdAway, AdFree and more are being whisked away.

So why, exactly, is Google bringing the ban hammer down on these unfortunate souls? Well, they seem to violate section 4.4 of the Play Store developer agreement. Said section states:

You agree that you will not engage in any activity with the Market, including the development or distribution of Products, that interferes with, disrupts, damages, or accesses in an unauthorized manner the devices, servers, networks, or other properties or services of any third party including, but not limited to, Android users, Google or any mobile network operator. You may not use customer information obtained from the Market to sell or distribute Products outside of the Market.

AdBlock is one of the casualties.

Meanwhile, Android is still open.

Strike that!

It is such a weird Wednesday with Google. Earlier today, Google announced Andy Rubin stepped down as head of Android™ team.

Software Updates: Twitter 5.4 for iOS

Twitter 5.4 for iOS is now available. This version of Twitter App removes support for uploading videos to Posterous. That makes a lot of sense since Posterous is shutting down.

What’s New in Version 5.4
This update includes enhancements to search and other improvements.

  • As you search you’ll see more topic and user suggestions for your query, based on what’s happening in real time. You’ll also see these suggestions when adding a hashtag or username as you compose a new Tweet.
  • Top Tweets from big moments in the past pop out when you search for a given term. For example, searching for “election” might highlight Tweets from several months ago.
  • When you open a web page you can now see the related Tweet for more context. Just pull the tray icon up or down to see or hide the Tweet.
  • It’s easier to see long conversations in the Tweet details view, which now shows all of the replies to any Tweet
  • When you block a user in the app, their Tweets will instantly disappear from the Connect tab in the app
  • Pull-to-refresh in Discover shows a new, smoother animation
  • Support for traditional Chinese
  • Logout support (iOS 6 only)
  • Uploading videos vie Mobypicture, Vodpod and Posterous is no longer supported
  • Additional bug fixes and improvements
