This Coming Week: CES and Mac App Store.

January 6th, 2011 marks the kick-off for International Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. Companies will be showcasing their upcoming product line-up for 2011. Expect a lot of tablet computing devices from different companies. Android will the the OS Flavor of the show. Microsoft will be there, again with their version of tablet. I’m looking forward to new DSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon. Maybe this year we will see improved consumer level camcorders.

January 6th, 2011 is also the scheduled opening day for Mac App Store. This also means Mac OS X 10.6.6 will be available shortly before the Mac App Store opening.

2010 In Review

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

The Blog-Health-o-Meter™ reads “This Blog is dying just like BSD per Netcraft’s confirmations. Please stop blogging then retire. Don’t use computers anymore.

The Earth population is closed to 7 Billion people. This blog was viewed about 3.1415926535897932 times in 2010. If it were an item at Walmart, no one would even consider buying it.

In 2010, there were 12 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 14 posts. There were 10 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 1mb. That’s about a picture per month. What a joke!

The busiest day of the year was April 22nd with 5 views, yes 5 views. What a pathetic blog. The most popular post that day was Comedy Central does not approve Uncensored version of South Park Episode 201.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were no one! Are you kidding me? No one links to this blog.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for sucky blog.

Dear WordPress, you don’t have to be so mean.

Welcome, 2011!

Happy New Year!
2011 is the new 2010.

By the way it is pretty cold in Southern California. It is only 35 degree Fahrenheit.

Trouble in FiOS Paradise tonight.

UPDATE:
FiOS service is back to normal around 1:00 AM.

I’m having such a hard time accessing the Series of Tubes tonight. I have been enjoying Verizon FiOS service for a few years now. I was working on a MacBook Pro and was going to download Mac OS X 10.6.5 Combo Update. I then noticed that the download speed was so horrible so I checked if the problem was with Apple’s server or my Internet service. After numbers of tests, it was apparent that the FiOS service was having issues. I tested the Internet speed using SpeedTest.net and found out the download speed was significantly lower than usual. It was down to 1.5 Mb/s in a few tests. At one point the result from SpeedTest.net was really amusing.

6.66 Mb/s

I must be easily amused.

Ugh! I just heard a loud pop coming from a MacBook Pro MagSafe Power Adapter.

Well, one MacBook Pro MagSafe Power Adapter of mine bites the dust. I was in the middle of using the 15-inch MacBook Pro Core Duo which I bought back in 2006 when I noticed the screen was automatically dimmed. There was no change in the ambient lighting. I noticed the MagSafe connector was no longer lit-up then I heard a loud popping noise coming from the power adapter. I immediately unplugged and inspected the power adapter. I could smell a burning electric component coming from the power adapter. I guess I’d have to head out and get a replacement in the morning. It would be $80 plus sales tax at the Apple Store. I could also buy the 85-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter from Amazon and have it delivered on Friday. Either way, I’d have to spend the money. I do have one that I always leave at home.

Did Microsoft really sell 1.5 million of Windows Phone 7 devices in 6 weeks?

Did Microsoft really sell 1.5 million of Windows Phone 7 devices in 6 weeks?

If you are Microsoft or Paul Thurrott, then you would say yes. If you are not either of them, you might have more questions about the number. If you are Paul Thurrott then you would argue that Microsoft did sell 1.5 million of Windows Phone 7 devices in 6 weeks.

In Windows Weekly 188, Paul Thurrott simply defends Microsoft’s sales number using some salesperson language. To paraphrase:

“Well, a sale is a sale. Microsoft does not sell any Windows Phone 7 phone to end consumer. Microsoft sells Windows Phone 7 licenses to phone manufacturers, It is obvious that Microsoft sells more than 1.5 million of Windows Phone 7 licenses. Phone manufacturers have sold 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 phone to retailers. So don’t you dare dispute Microsoft’s sales numbers! So sayeth Paul Thurrott, Microsoft P.R. Person.”

I might have taken some poetic license in paraphrasing Thurrott. Listen to Windows Weekly 188 and you’ll sense the tensions between Leo Laporte and Paul Thurrott talking about the subject. In the end, Leo Laporte took a step back and let Thurrott have his words.

Based on that, I am certain that there are a lot less Windows Phone 7 devices sold to end users than what Microsoft and Paul Thurrott want everyone to believe.
