Apple announces the availability of iPhone OS 3.1 and iPod touch OS 3.1 at the “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it” event on Wednesday 09.09.2009. iPhone OS 3.1 is available for no charge for any iPhones. iPod touch OS 3.1 is also available for free when upgrading from OS 3.0.x but costs $4.95 for those still running iPod touch OS 1.x and 2.x.

As usual a few “tech journalists” didn’t really listen nor throughly read what Apple said. That includes Leo Laporte (TWiT) and Tom Holwerda (OSNews).

Once again, if your iPod touch is running OS 3.0.x then you will be able to download the upgrade for free. If your iPod touch is still running OS 1.x or 2.x then you’ll have to pay $4.95 to get the OS 3.1.
