The Comfort in 8GB of RAM.

A lot of computers sold in 2011 comes with 4GB of ram or higher. For most, that amount of RAM is more than enough. For the past 3 months I found out that I personally needs at minimum 8GB of RAM. I’d go for 16GB as long as it doesn’t cost too much. I can get 2x4GB SO-DIMM RAM for under $60 while 2x8GB SO-DIMM costs more than $800.

I set-up a Mac mini earlier today. The office requires a certain Windows-only program, so I installed Windows on Parallels. It used all the RAM it could get and used up all 4GB. I’ve just ordered 2x4GB SO-DIMM RAM for the Mac mini. I know it would run better with more RAM.

Yet another problem with a hard drive.

One of the office computers was having problems throughout the week. I decided to take it home and troubleshoot it for the weekend. I found out there are some problems with the hard drive. The first thing I do is running Spinrite in recovery mode.

The good news is that Spinrite is able to recover data from the bad sector. The bad news is that the process is going to take longer than I expected.

Marketing versus Reality.

Advertisement for a Tech product:

“It is so easy to use, even a 5 year old can use it.”

What an average user would say:

“They said it is so easy to use, but how? I’m not good with tech stuff.”

Marketing does not necessarily represent reality.

Which CD-ROM Boot Type?

Can you be less descriptive please?

Just in case you’re wondering I was booting from Ubuntu disc. Don’t remember exactly which version.

Conversation with ADATA Customer Service.

I decided to call ADATA Customer Service regarding the RMA process for the S599 SSD. Since I’m located within driving range to their Hacienda Heights office, I decided to get the deliver the defective product in person. I called the Customer Service and was informed that I could go to their office and get the replacement.

I’d be visiting ADATA USA office this Wednesday.

RMA for an SSD.

One of the ADATA S599 SSD‘s I’ve been using failed earlier this week. First there were performance degradations, then it had trouble accessing files. Soon after the computer would not boot with the SSD attached through the SATA Bus or External FireWire case.

I had contacted ADATA for RMA and will be sending it out this Monday morning.

Bad Capacitors on Motherboard.

I was working on a computer earlier today and found some bad capacitors on the motherboard. Bulging capacitors indicate problems. This motherboard is a goner.

Will add the picture later.
