Android KitKat 4.2.2

Sometimes on Thursday, December 12, 2013 both my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 received the Android KitKat 4.2.2 update. My colleague’s Nexus 5 received the update on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.

After updating to Android 4.2 KitKat, I tested the tethering and mobile hotspot feature. It is even more broken than before, specifically within T-Mobile USA network. If your Nexus 4 still running Android Jelly Bean 4.3 and you use it as a mobile hotspot, avoid Android KitKat at all cost.

Android 4.3 Update for Nexus 7

My Nexus 7 finally got the Android 4.3 update, just about one week after Google said it was released.

From AnandTech:

One of the common complaints late in the life of the original Nexus 7 was slow storage I/O performance, leading to an inconsistent user experience. After a fresh flash, the Nexus 7 was speedy and performant, but after months of installing applications and using the tablet, things began slowing down. This was a friction point that many hoped would be fixed in the new Nexus 7 (2013) model, which it was. There’s even more to the story though, it turns out Google has fixed that storage I/O aging problem on all Nexus devices with the Android 4.3 update.

You dont’ have to read between the lines that prior to Android 4.3 Nexus 7 had a serious flaw.

iPad mini and Nexus 7

There’s the iPad mini with LTE and a Nexus 7. One person at the office will be using this for the Thanksgiving week and write something about them.
