Putting a lot of faith in Apple Maps

On Tuesday, I was heading out to Manhattan, New York from Ridgewood, New Jersey. Armed with an iPad with Apple Maps, I became the navigator. I was putting a lot of faith in Apple Maps to tell me where to go. It’s all good.

New York Mayor Bloomberg blames Apple for increase in Crime Rate

New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg blames Apple for increase in crime rate.

From The New York Times:

Major crime in New York City inched up this year, and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg on Friday fingered the culprit: too many iPhones and iPads were being swiped.

A rise in thefts of shiny Apple products accounted for the slight increase in the city’s annual crime index, a statistic that covers a number of felonies, including murder, grand larceny and robbery, Mr. Bloomberg said on Friday morning during his weekly radio show.

Apple competitors should jump on this right away.

“Don’t want to get mugged? Don’t buy Apple products.”

That will go well.

Live Coverage Links of Verizon 1-11-11 Special Event.

Here we go again, waiting for the one who stole CES’ thunder. Verizon is having a special event in New York this Tuesday January 11th, 2011. The event starts at 11:00 AM New York Time. The first thing came to mind is iPhone. The media heavyweights have been buzzing about iPhone coming to Verizon for the past few months. The rumors flying of the self. John Gruber, the unofficial Apple leak channel, mentioned the existence of CDMA iPhone codenamed N92. A lot of Mac Journalists were invited to the event. Gizmodo did not get the event. Ryan Block is silent about it. So, it would come as no surprise if all of this are true.

SPOILER
Apple hired a few former Verizon’s employees back in 2009 who are now working at their iPhone division. They have been keeping quiet about it for so long. They also said “No Comment” on the fabled White iPhone 4.
END OF SPOILER

As usual, there will be numbers of sites providing live coverage. You can always use search for them or find it here and let me do the work for you. More links will be added as they become available.

Amazon cancels Affiliate Programs in Colorado citing new Tax Regulations as the cause.

It is not the first time Amazon cancels their Affiliate programs in certain States due to new Tax Regulations. This time Amazon cancels the Affiliate Program in the State of Colorado. Previously Amazon canceled Affiliate Program in the State of North Carolina and Rhode Island. This means that Peter Griffin, Glen Quagmire and Joe Swanson are not eligible to participate in Amazon Affiliate Program.

From Amazon.com Associates Agreement:

In addition, if at any time following your enrollment in the Program you become a resident of Colorado, North Carolina or Rhode Island, you will become ineligible to participate in the Program, and this Operating Agreement will automatically terminate, on the date you establish residency in that state. In addition, you must promptly notify us in writing of your Colorado, North Carolina or Rhode Island residency, which you may do via the Contact Associates Customer Service form available here.

Starting June 1st, 2008  Amazon started collecting sales tax for any orders shipped within the State of New York. Amazon threatened to cancel Affiliate Program but opted to collect the sales tax. Amazon has filled a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Tax Regulations.

The State of California is considering a bill that requires out-of-State online retailers to collect sales Tax for any fulfilment within the Sate of California. If and when such bill passed by California Government, Amazon has to reconsider its business strategy considering the large amount of sales generated by its Affiliate Programs.
