Going 2.5 Gbps part deux

Late last year, I added a 10 Gbps Ethernet adapters to our Synology DiskStations. I installed NETGEAR 10-Port Gigabit/10G Ethernet Plus Switch (GS110EMX) so that 8 computers we have at the office can each have full Gigabit connection to the main DiskStation.

At home office, I have TP-Link TL-SG108-M2, 8 Port 2.5 Gigabit Switch installed. That’s because 10 Gbps switches are still expensive, and I’m also concerned about the amount of heat they currently generate.

Anyway, I’m now 2.5 Gbps compliant at home office.

NETGEAR ProSafe FVS336G

We had a little meltdown on Monday morning when one of our Internet connection went down. Coincidentally, the Dual-WAN router we’ve been using for the past 6 years also took a dive. I ran to the nearest electronic store that rhymed with “fries” and picked up a NETGEAR ProSafe FVS336G.

By the end of the day, we had both Internet connection running. Now I have to learn more about this NETGEAR ProSafe router, especially setting up the VPN.

Belkin to acquire Linksys from Cisco

Belkin announced its intention to acquire Cisco’s Home Networking Business Unit including Linksys brand.

Specific financial terms of the transaction are undisclosed. The transaction is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to close in March 2013.

Can Belkin save Linksys brand?

Annecdotaly we  have been watching the decline in quality of Linksys products for the past several years. We purchased quite a few units of Linksys Wi-Fi Router E3200 for the past two years and witnessed every single one of them failed one after another.
