VLC 1.0.0 is Released.

The VideoLAN project has officially released VLC 1.0.0 codenamed Goldeneye. Download it now.

VLC 1.0.0 is a cross-platform media player, available for Linux, Mac, Windows and other Operating Systems.

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player and multimedia framework capable of reading most audio and video formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, DivX, MPEG-1, mp3, ogg, aac …) as well as DVDs, Audio CDs VCDs, and various streaming protocols. See the full features list.

Anything Goes: July 4th Weekend, 2009 Edition.

I have been diverting most of my attention away from writing anything for the past 2 days and consequently missed a lot of things in news. There are a few posting stuck in Draft mode which I should have changed the status to Published.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to resign in surprise move (Reuters) | Certainly a lot of people are talking about Sarah Palin this week. Palin has definitely steer her political career towards the road of ruins. What was John McCain thinking when he chose her as running-mate in 2008 Presidential Election? More on Sarah Plain’s resignation: SFGate, Huffington Post, FOXNews, CNN and MSNBC.
Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service (Staples Center) | I wonder how many LAPD Officers will be deployed to the Staples Center. More spending.
Jammie Thomas will appeal, lawyer says (CNET) | A somewhat baffling case since the Judge ordered the retrial because he determined that he may have made a mistake in instructing the jury. The first trial yielded a $222,000 victory for the RIAA and the second one yielded a $1.9 Million against Thomas.
Snowfall on Mars? NASA’s Phoenix Lander recorded it (Ars Technica) | Water on Mars! This should be incorporated in the remake of Total Recall. Speaking of which, you can buy Total Recall DVD and Blu-ray on Amazon.
Metallica: Rock Werchter Streaming Live (Metallica.com) | Maybe Lars Ulrich would actually practice to nail the drum part for the live broadcast/webcast.

Faster Than The Speed Of Light.

Something that is faster than the speed of light? That’s a bull-pie! Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. That’s why scientists increased the speed of light in 2208.

It might be some wacky comedy from Futurama, but a scientist has created radio waves that travels faster than the speed of light. John Singleton the scientist (not the movie director) has achieved that.

Something that is faster than the speed of light. I want my Sub-Space Communication along with Warp Drive, Transporter and Replicator. Wait a minute, that’s from Star Trek.

Anyway, Albert Einstein would be so proud.

Iran upholds Ahmadinejad poll victory after recount (Reuters) | At least they don’t have lawyers involved. They only insisted on what the result is by recounting a “random” 10% of the ballot.

Missing a lot of news items for the past weeks, and still have a few in draft mode. A lot of things are happening today.

Slayer: About the Apocalypse. Interview with Drummer, Dave Lombardo (KNAC) | The interview was conducted before Slayer embarked on the Canadian Carnage Tour with Megadeth.
Transformers 2 kills in its opening five days with $200M (SCI FI Wire) | All the bad reviews did not stop people from watching this movie at all. Great. This will encourage Michael Bay to make more movies with more explosions.
Billy Mays, star pitchman, dead at 50 (CNNMoney) | A lot of celebrity death this week.
Army overthrows Honduras president in vote dispute (Reuters) | From the article: “Zelaya fired military chief Gen. Romeo Vasquez last week for refusing to help him run an unofficial referendum on Sunday on extending the four-year term limit on Honduran presidents.”

Anything Goes: June 25th, 2009 Edition – Part 2!

I had such a tiring day and don’t feel like going anywhere else anymore. Actually I still have two more things to do. I was planning to go to Hollywood Improv to meet a friend, but at this point I’m to tired too care.

Obituary:

Farrah Fawcett, sex symbol and actress, dies (CNN) | Farrah Fawcett had been battling cancer for the last three years of her life. Fawcett is best known for her role in Charlie’s Angels TV series.
Michael Jackson, pop music legend, dead at 50 (CNN) | Michael Jackson was reported to have cardiac arrest. Jackson was preparing for his “This Is It!” Tour at the O2 Arena, London UK. Jackson is one of the biggest names in the Pop Music History.

Supreme Court rejects school strip search (Reuters) | “By an 8-1 vote, the justices upheld a ruling that the school and its officials violated the U.S. constitutional right that protects against unreasonable search and seizure.” 8-1 vote? Apparently Judge Clarence Thomas thinks that it is OK to stip search a 13 year-old girl (NYTimes).
