Microsoft-Induced Rage

It seems that Microsoft never learns not to mess with people’s computer. In this case, we’re talking about Windows 11 upgrade.

There are reasons why certain users are staying on Windows 10. That’s because certain applications are not working, properly or at all, in Windows 11.

Must we tell Windows not to upgrade to Windows 11 every month?

The Trouble with Windows 8.1 Update

Windows 8.1 Install could not be completed

I could not believe how Windows 8.1 failed to install on a computer that has a factory-installed Windows 8.

I’d have to wipe the hard drive again and use the system-restore discs on this computer.

Going Back to Windows 8

Going Back to Windows 8

For some odd reasons, Windows 10 would not activate after upgrading from Windows 8.1. I called Microsoft and they told me to reinstall Windows 8, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft also advised me to call HP and request Windows 8 Product Key should the process failed.

Seriously?

Windows 10 is not activated

Apparently the “factory-installed” product key caused the error. The end user product key is said to be installed in the UEFI BIOS, encrypted.

I guess I’d have to spend a few more days on this project.

Windows 10 Setup

Installing Windows 10 is a time-consuming affair. As a matter of fact it has been “checking for updates” for an hour by now.

UPDATE:

It is about 2:00 A.M. and finally it is “installing”. I gotta go to bed.

Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard

Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard

My colleague was really looking forward to using Microsoft’s Universal Mobile Keyboard. It connects to iOS devices (i.e. iPhone and iPad), Android devices and Desktop PC via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the unit he received was defective as the battery was not holding any charges. It worked great when connected to a power source via micro-USB. The power cuts out as soon as the USB cable was unplugged. Amazon sent out replacement unit and it was delivered two days after. For some odd reasons, the replacement unit was also defective. Microsoft has yet to respond to the support request.

By the way, the rubberized surface attracts all kinds of dirts.

What’s with the Ad-Network, Microsoft?

Microsoft could easily use their own internal analytics instead of using AdNexus (adnxs.com). A lot of links on Microsoft homepage points to lib.adnxs.com that ultimately go back to microsoft.com pages.

I noticed this since I had 127.0.0.1’d lib.adnxs.com in the hosts file.
