Metallica: Silver goes the Black Album

Metallica Black Album CD

Metallica released its biggest selling album on August 12, 1991; that’s twenty-five years ago to the date. Metallica’s self-titled album, spawned five singles:

  1. “Enter Sandman”
  2. “The Unforgiven”
  3. “Nothing Else Matters”
  4. “Wherever I May Roam”
  5. “Sad But True”

“The Black Album” as it is commonly referred to, went on to sell more than 16 million copies as of August, 2015 in the United States alone. Per Wikipedia article, It has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. In February, 2016 “The Black Album” was selling about 5,000 units per week; better than many newly released records that month.

“The Black Album” was the record that helped Metallica break into the mainstream music scene.

On May 7, 2012 Metallica performed “The Black Album” in its entirety from the last song to the first in Prague, Czech Republic.

I still play songs from the record to this day as it is one of my all time favorite along with the first four Metallica records.

Metallica Ride The Lightning Deluxe

I still am a huge Metallica fan after all these years. The first time I heard “Fight Fire With Fire”, I thought “What’s this? This is awesome!”

I certainly can’t wait for “Master of Puppets” to be remastered and released in a box set, if they ever get to that.

I pre-ordered that boxsets at a discount. They retail at $149.99 each.

Metallica and Lang Lang Performance of “One” is available on iTunes

The first question comes to mind is: “Who is this Lang Lang?”

Metallica performed “One” with pianist Lang Lang at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on January 26, 2014. The rehearsal recording is now available on iTunes.

$0.30 from each sale of the song on iTunes will be donated to MusiCares.

One thing I love about this performance is that I can clearly hear the bass, unlike the original studio recording.

Master of Puppets

I had an assignment earlier today involving Mac Pros. Considering that I’d be having some travelling and waiting, I decided to bring some music with me. At home I went through my collections and picked up one CD that I haven’t touched in a long time, physically. Yeah, thanks to the convenience of digital music, in the cloud. I loaded the CD in my computer and, well, you can guest the rest.

Metallica - Master of Puppets

It’s Metallica’s 1986 seminal record Master of Puppets. I actually listened to the whole record from beginning to finish, without skipping a single second. That’s the whole 54 minutes and 46 seconds of musical bliss, to me.

Stories from the past: Damage Inc. Tour

A friend of mine and I were sharing stories and one in particular came up. It was Metallica’s Damage Inc. Tour back in 1986 opening for Ozzy Osbourne. That was the last tour Cliff Burton was on before tragically killed in bus accident on September 27th, 2986.

My friend still has the ticket stub from the show from June 14th, 1986 at Long Beach Arena. For a lot of people Metallica was the reason they went to the show.
