Windows 8 Developer Preview on MacBook

I installed a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive with Windows 8 Developer Preview on a MacBook. It boots up just fine with the exception with the MacBook trackpad driver. Gotta give Microsoft credit for making Windows 8 compatible with older hardwares such as this MacBook.

Network Blackout Survival Kit

Armed with a Nexus One and a MacBook Pro, I was able to bring Internet connection back to the office earlier today. On Thursday, we lost both Internet and phone service. We have contacted our service provider to resolve the issue. Both Internet and phone were still down on Friday. So I used my Nexus One to create Wi-Fi hotspot and connected my MacBook Pro to it. Then I shared the Internet Connection from the Wi-Fi through the Ethernet to the office router. We managed to survive the day.

Does New MacBook Pro Offer Optional Second Hard Drive In Lieu Of Optical Drive?

According to an imaginary source who claimed to be an Apple Executive that is definitely not Phil Schiller, Apple has been exploring the idea of including the option for second hard drive for MacBook Pro instead of the optical drive. In addition to that with slight redesign to the motherboard, MacBook Pro could house total of three hard drives. While details are unclear, Apple might offer MacBook Air style flash-based storage in addition to the 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and the Optical drive.

According to the same source, MacBook Pro refresh is “coming sooner than you think” while providing no details on the time-frame.

Ugh! I just heard a loud pop coming from a MacBook Pro MagSafe Power Adapter.

Well, one MacBook Pro MagSafe Power Adapter of mine bites the dust. I was in the middle of using the 15-inch MacBook Pro Core Duo which I bought back in 2006 when I noticed the screen was automatically dimmed. There was no change in the ambient lighting. I noticed the MagSafe connector was no longer lit-up then I heard a loud popping noise coming from the power adapter. I immediately unplugged and inspected the power adapter. I could smell a burning electric component coming from the power adapter. I guess I’d have to head out and get a replacement in the morning. It would be $80 plus sales tax at the Apple Store. I could also buy the 85-Watt MagSafe Power Adapter from Amazon and have it delivered on Friday. Either way, I’d have to spend the money. I do have one that I always leave at home.

“Back to the Mac” Live Coverage Links.

Well, it’s time of the Apple event again. There will be numbers of sites providing live coverage from the event. Who knows if Apple would provide live stream just like the September Music Event.

As usual, links will be listed below as they are made available.

I wonder if gdgt got an invitation to the event or they might have gone Gizmodo way after Ryan Block’s “glassgate” article. By the way the terms “glassgate” and “antennaegate” are pretty stupid. They are named after the “Watergate” scandal which is the name of the Hotel where it happened. It was never noun-gate naming convention.
