2026 Midsummer Day of the Ox

Bronze Ox

July 26, 2026 is the Midsummer Day of the Ox, or per Wikipedia entry Midsummer Ox Day.

Midsummer Ox Day (土用の丑の日, Doyō no ushi no hi) is the day associated with the Ox sign in the traditional Japanese calendar. The most famous Ox Day in Japan (one or two days with an interval of 12 days) are on the hottest time of the year (late July – early August), which is also characterized by high humidity. The main dish of this day is kabayaki, baked or fried eel (unagi) with sweet teriyaki sauce. This high-fat food is said to help maintain strength during this hot season.

Note:
The photo was taken by yours truly back in February 13, 2010 and posted on Flickr.

Another Note:
There are projects that we’re working on with references to “Day of the Ox” and “Procrastinating with Friends”. We are for sure thinking about launching said projects.

Blast from the Past: Mozilla Firefox 3 CD for $2.99

I was going through numerous hard drives that I stored and found a lot of photos from 2006 through 2009. One of them was taken on November 14, 2009 at Micro Center in Tustin, California.

It’s a photo of Firefox 3 CD, priced at $2.99 (USD). If you were having trouble downloading Mozilla Firefox off the Internet, this CD might have been really useful.

Farewell My Friend

Meow Meow

It has been more than 6 weeks since I saw my friend, a feral cat who was also the sweetest Calico-Point Siamese Cat.

According to the people in the area, they haven’t seen her either for the last 6 weeks. I’m hoping that someone actually took her in. The other scenarios would certainly be breaking my heart.

Living on the Apple 27 Beta Edge

Apple os 27 Beta/Preview

Today, Apple released Developer OS 27 Beta 3 for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS, and visionOS. Did I miss any? Oh yeah, there’s watchOS.

As usual, I’m crazy enough to install these Beta Operating Systems on my main devices. Previous two beta releases had their own share of issues and I’m hoping its third iteration would be much more stable.

Some time ago, I wrote a lot about Apple Beta releases here. Then, there was this thing called “job” that took most of my time and energy, thus rendering me into a much more efficient slacker in my off time. Instead of paying attention to this site, I spent my time trying to relax and dealing with daily stress.

Anyway, since there’s a huge change in my daily routine, I might be motivated to write more here; however irrelevant the contents would be.

Anyway, what was I writing about? Apple Beta releases.

iOS 27 Beta 3 now enables new Siri Voice customization.

Customizing New Siri Voice

I have yet to further explore the new features in iOS 27 Beta (and the other OSes).

Note: I was having issues with Apple CarPlay in Beta 1 and 2. I’d certainly find out soon enough if the problem persists in Beta 3.

Well, that’s it for now.

Hey Fourth!

Fireworks we’re all I heard and saw as the sun sets. The culmination of Fourth of July celebrations did not with literal bangs; which without any doubts still goes on through the night.

Sparks, I see Sparks!

Sheriffs were patrolling the streets and issuing citations for illegal fireworks. Yet I saw tons of show-grade firework filling up the sky.

Meanwhile, somewhere in the United States, same old situations. Just look up the news regarding tragedies in the Fourth of July. I shouldn’t have to mention it here.

Well, back to regular schedules on Tuesday.
