Mobile Safari and Journalism, or the lack of it.

Mobile Safari

The New York Times Bits published an interview with the person who claimed to be responsible for the development of the first iPhone App, namely Mobile Safari.

John Gruber has a different take on it.

Judging by my inbox, an awful lot of coffee was spewed in Cupertino today upon reading Tolmasky’s self-aggrandizing description of his role in Mobile Safari’s creation. There’s a difference between “the developer responsible for the first version of mobile Safari” and “the developer who claims he was responsible for the first version of mobile Safari”.

UPDATE: Said one long-time trusted source: “He definitely was NOT the lead on the project and several other engineers made far more significant contributions.”

Personally I have been taking what news organization published with a grain or a boulder of salt.

New and Thinner Square Reader

I received the new and thinner Square reader for a few weeks already. I finally took it out of the packaging and compare it with the older reader.

The new Square reader is roughly half the thickness of the old one, but has a slightly larger surface area.

The new Square reader is required by June 1, 2014.

Apple begins sending out test units of the new iPhone

Commemorating the thirty eighth year of its founding, Apple begins sending out the next iPhone, dubbed by news media and Apple watchers as “iPhone 6”, to select individuals outside the company.

This would be the first time in the recent history that Apple sent out unreleased/in-development product to people outside Apple. According to firstname@apple.com, these individuals are trusted by Apple and will not leak details of the new iPhone. Instead the leak is likely coming from iPhone assembly facility.

Notice the polite request for App Review at the end of the release note?

One thing I did notice about WordPress for iOS is the lack of solicitation for App Store review. John Gruber has some great points.
