Eight days after Apple Special Event on Tuesday, September 9, 2014; iOS 8 is officially released.
iOS 8 is available through iTunes or iOS Software Update (Settings > General > Software Update).
iOS 8 brings Wi-Fi Calling on T-Mobile USA network. This feature is available on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

I wonder what T-Mobile / Apple would do with the EarPod after it is being used. Remember, I have to return the Test Drive kit at after the seventh day.

Here’s the interesting part: a 64GB unlocked iPhone 5s retails for $849 + taxes at Apple Store. Should I choose to keep the 64GB iPhone 5s from the Test Drive kit, it would have cost me $699 + taxes. That is $150 cheaper than Apple Store price.
I already have an unlocked 64GB iPhone 5s, courtesy of firstnameatappledotcom. I don’t think I would want to buy one anytime soon.
For 24-hour period I used the iPhone 5s on T-Mobile network and performed Speed Test using Ookla SpeedTest.net app. Bear in mind, these tests were not done scientifically. In that 24-hour period I spent some times at the following locations in Southern California:
I noticed that T-Mobile network performed exceptionally well in the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach area; 74.99 Mbps download and 25.43 Mbps upload peak test result. T-Mobile has the best network around my office desk, beating out AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. T-Mobile might have secretly installed a cell tower a few feet from me.
Somewhere in the Fullerton / Placentia area, Verizon seems to have the best network; beating T-Mobile and AT&T. Sorry for the slightly blurry picture, it’s the only one I have.
iPhone 5s on Verizon LTE network has an impressive 40.77 Mbps download speed compared to 13.48 Mbps and 9.92 Mbps for T-Mobile and AT&T, respectively.
In the Downtown Long Beach area, AT&T hits 8.88 Mbps download speed while T-Mobile hits 20.55 Mbps.
What do these all mean?
I can certainly say that I would not mind switching carrier. Six more days to go.

First Weekend iPhone Sales Top Nine Million, Sets New Record
CUPERTINO, California―September 23, 2013―Apple® today announced it has sold a record-breaking nine million new iPhone® 5s and iPhone 5c models, just three days after the launch of the new iPhones on September 20. In addition, more than 200 million iOS devices are now running the completely redesigned iOS 7, making it the fastest software upgrade in history. Both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are available in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. One week ago Apple stock took a beating because Apple did not announce the iPhone 5c first weekend pre-order number. On Monday, Apple stock gained 23.23 points after the announcement.
Apple Retail Store are sold out of Gold iPhone 5s, while the Silver and Space Gray model can be relatively found in stores.
When the clock struck midnight Pacific Daylight Time, both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c went on sale. Within minutes United States Apple Store Online quoting 7-to-10 days shipping time for the contract-free T-Mobile iPhone 5s. The same went for Gold iPhone 5s. Twenty-two hours later, US Apple Store Online is quoting October shipping time for all iPhone 5s.
Surveying three Apple Stores in Southern California, almost all iPhone 5s were sold by 20:00 hours. The leftovers were 16 GB and 32 GB iPhone 5s for Verizon and Sprint; mostly Sprint.
Meanwhile, Apple Store have plenty of iPhone 5c stock. Late shoppers at Apple Store South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa, California were looking to buy some iPhone 5c.
According to Apple Store employees, they were expecting some iPhone 5s shipment on Saturday.
September 20, 2013 is a huge day for iPhone 5s. It was not made available for pre-order on September 12, 2013 like iPhone 5c, the colorful-polycarbonate sibling.
Apple is likely to announce its first week launch number of both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c together this Monday, if not sooner.
iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c went on sale on Friday September 20, 2013 first in New Zealand. US customers still have to wait for the clock to strike 12:01 Pacific Daylight Time.
US Apple store Online just went down ahead of iPhone 5s launch. Based on a few chatters, Apple might not be offering unlocked iPhone 5s on launch day.
