Yet another round of spam purporting from “App Store Support” or “App Store Team”, complete with graphics directly linked from Apple’s own server.
Based on a few reports, this type of spam started making the round on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Anecdotally, all the reports come from users with mac.com emails.
Should you be getting this type of spam in your iCloud email, please forward the email as attachment to spam@icloud.com
Apple CEO, Tim Cook:
A few years ago, users of Internet services began to realize that when an online service is free, you’re not the customer. You’re the product. But at Apple, we believe a great customer experience shouldn’t come at the expense of your privacy.
Our business model is very straightforward: We sell great products. We don’t build a profile based on your email content or web browsing habits to sell to advertisers. We don’t “monetize” the information you store on your iPhone or in iCloud. And we don’t read your email or your messages to get information to market to you. Our software and services are designed to make our devices better. Plain and simple.
It is simple, Apple makes money by selling products instead of selling customer’s information. Apple is selling its products at a premium price, expectation of privacy is implied.
Finally, I want to be absolutely clear that we have never worked with any government agency from any country to create a backdoor in any of our products or services. We have also never allowed access to our servers. And we never will.
Apple is serious about its commitment to privacy, especially with the impending launch of Apple Pay.
With the release of iOS 8 GM, Apple has updated iCloud Storage pricing.
We checked and the upgrade options are available on iOS 7, iOS 8, OS X Mavericks and OS X Yosemite.
Just a few years ago, setting up a new computer for either yourself or others was a chore. It is still a chore, but easier. Thanks to sync services provided by Apple, Google and Mozilla; moving browsers’ settings and bookmarks are no longer difficult.
Apple has iCloud, Google has Chrome Sync and Mozilla has Firefox Sync. You get to move your Bookmarks and Passwords with ease.
In OS X 10.9.3, turning on Find My Mac will result in “Users” folder to be hidden.
According to many reports, iTunes 11.2 must also be installed in addition to “Find My Mac” enabled in OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 for this bug to execute.
To make the “Users” folder visible again until next reboot,
login as an administrator, launch Terminal.App and type the command:
sudo chflags nohidden /Users
Type in your password when prompted. If you do not have a login password for your admin account, leave it blank.
By the way, why didn’t you assign a password to your admin account? Set a password already.
