Google Voice, Free calling within the US and Canada through 2013

The Gmail Team has confirmed that Google Voice will provide free calling within the US and Canada through 2013.

Many of you call phones from Gmail to easily connect with friends and family. If you’re in the US and Canada, you’ll continue to be able to make free domestic calls through 2013. Plus, in most countries, you can still call the rest of the world from Gmail at insanely low rates.

We here rely on Google Voice for our day to day operation and we are glas that Google is providing this service for free*. For that we thank Google.

* We are aware that Google is monetizing the free service in one way or another.

Scribbles for Gmail, One Year Later.

The Gmail Team announced Scribbles for Gmail back on December 19th, 2011. It was available on Gmail for the mobile web browser and the Gmail app for iOS.

One year to the day, most if not almost all Gmail users are still unaware of Scribbles for Gmail. Curiously, this feature is still not available on Google’s own Android Operating System.
I certainly have been using Gmail for iOS thanks to Scribbles for Gmail.

Google Voice in Gmail, Receiving calls.

I spend most of my time out of my office, working on various projects. It would be nice to have the ability to receive calls on my computer using Google Voice. Google now makes it possible.

To enable receiving Google Voice calls in Gmail, check the box next to Google Chat in the list of forwarding phones.

Now I can be somewhere else to receive calls without having it to ring the office phone. I could forward it to my mobile phone, but sometimes the signals are non-existent. Care to guess which mobile network I’m with?

Google Voice in Gmail, Oh Yeah!

Google has just made Google Voice even sweeter on Wednesday August 25th, 2010. Now Google Voice users can receive and make calls from Gmail. Providing the microphone and speakers are available. Notebook users should have little problems with the requirements.

You need to install “Video and voice plug-in” to enable this feature with your browser. Video and voice plug-in requires Windows XP+ or Mac OS X 10.4+ or Linux.

Google is slowly rolling out this feature to Google Voice users in the United States. So be patient.
