Apparently I was not paying attention and mad a double post. It’s now fixed.
Final Cut Studio: Failed Installation
I was working on a Mac Pro with newly installed Snow Leopard on Wednesday September 16th, 2009. I tried installing Final Cut Studio (2009) and it kept failing.
After a long troubleshooting session, I finally found out what the culprits were.
I managed to duplicate the error on a 13-inch MacBook Pro also running a newly installed Snow Leopard.
For some reasons on both the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, Final Cut Pro installation failed if iLife ’09 installed. Make sure all iLife ’09 is up to date, especially iDVD.
I succesfully installed Final Cut Studio sans iDVD Theme Element.
If the installation still failed, you can separately install Final Cut Studio elements. The error most likely occurred after Final Cut Pro and Colors are installed. Therefore, install the followings separately:
- Motion Contents
- Audio Contents
- DVD Studio Pro
It is likely that there was an error while reading the installation disc. For example the Mac Pro I was working on was unable to read Motion Contents disk 2. By installing Final Cut Studio components separately, I managed to get all of them successfully installed.
July 23, 2009 – Stop The Presses; Apple Store is Closed for Updates.
UPDATE:
It’s the new Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio.
I’m still awake and was about to renew my account . Then I found out that Apple Store is closed for updates. What could it be? Most likely it’d be some regular maintenance. It was July 23rd, 2009 at 3:30AM Pacific Time.

Review: Samsung SyncMaster 2343BWX
I picked up Samsung SyncMaster 2343BWX 23.3-inch LCD display. It is the newly released 16:9 LCD display. It supports QWXGA resolutions (2048×1152).
First Impressions
Samsung SyncMaster 2343BWX looks a little bit out of place due to its extra wide profile. It doesn’t take long to get used to the 16:9 width to height ratio that is commonly found in HD-TV. The brightness and color of this LCD monitor are above average in my opinion.
Resolutions: 2048×1152 @60Hz
Maximum Refresh Rate: 75Hz
Diagonal Measurement: 23.3 inch
This monitor is not intended for gaming. First it is the aspect ratio, most games will be stretch to fit the screen. Second, this monitor seems to have a slow response time for intense 3D-games such as Call of Duty (first person shooter game).
This monitor seems to be designed primarily for one thing: widescreen video. This monitor provides extra horizontal space for programs like Final Cut Express/Pro. This monitor is a perfect companion for those who use HD camcorders since they share the same aspect ratio. No more dealing with the letter-boxing on the monitor when viewing the HD video full-screen.
The monitor does not come with Height Adjustable Stand (HAS, however it does come with one VGA (D-sub) cable and one DVI cable.
to be continued.
Darren Carter: Ice House Rough Edit
I’m meeting Darren Carter at the Laugh Factory tonight. I’m currently editing video of his stand-up from Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena. The videos were shot using Panasonic HDC-SD5 and HDC-SD9.
The AVCHD video’s were imported using iMovie ’08 in 540p and edited on Final Cut Pro 6.0.4. I’m using an octo-core 2.8GHz Mac Pro with 4GB of RAM.
Currently it is only the rough edit. I’d be putting up the clips either on my sites or on Darren Carter’s. Stay Tuned.
