Metallica: Death Magnetic

Update:
If you’re looking for any leaks of the recording, get in line and head to Mission: Metallica for the next best thing.

The internet most hated band, Metallica has revealed the titled their yet to be finished albums. “Death Magnetic” is the title the band’s new album, a follow up to the 2003 sonic abortion titled “St. Anger”.

Grab some “Death Magnetic” Wallpaper from Metallica.com.

Metallica became the internet most hated band when the ill-advised Lars Ulrich declared war against Napster and its users back in 2000 Under the guidance of Howard King who also represented Dr. Dre and Red Hot Chili Pepper, Ulrich paved the warpath against Napster and its users. Such move became the catalyst to the birth of anti-Metallica movement, solidify the band’s title as internet most hated band.

Metallica once was the mightiest band in the world with seminal records such as “Kill ‘Em All” and “Master of Puppets”, became the end of many jokes. Camp Chaos enjoyed huge success for parodying the Metallica v. Napster fiasco. Metallica seems to have lost their edge, especially after releasing “Load” and “ReLoad” in 1996 and 1997 respectively. Shortly after Napster fiasco, Metallica lost Jason Newsted who had been with the band since 1987. The end of Metallica seemed to be inevitable.

In 2003, Metallica re-emerge with “St. Anger”, dubbed as one of the worst sounding recording ever, especially with the drums. Metallica still managed to draw phenomenally large crowd on their tour all around the world. Metallica stayed in the public eye for the now infamous documentary “Some Kind Of Monster” in 2004. The documentary showed the turmoils within the band’s life. How could the world’s biggest band be in such situation. They couldn’t even write decent songs. Many diehard fans could only hope that the addition of Robert Trujillo would revive Metallica and once again deliver the music to love.

Here we are five years after “St. Anger”, Metallica announced their ninth studio album titled “Death Magnetic”. The first album written and recorded with Robert Trujillo as a member. This time Metallica tapped Rick Rubin as their producer. Yet, once again, Metallica couldn’t stay away from controversy even when the band themselves didn’t do anything. In June 2008, Metallica was accused of bullying some bloggers to take down reviews of their unfinished songs. Upon the news, the internet once again crowned Metallica as their most hated band. Shortly after, the band revealed that they were shocked by this allegation, and found out that the band’s own management, Q-Prime was acting without their consent. As usual, the damage is done. This somehow proves that it is easy to start controversy on the internet. Metallica is yet still the internet most hated band.

Despite of all the negativity, no one would be able to deny the legacy of Metallica. The year 2008 marks the 25 year anniversary to “Kill ‘Em All”, Metallica’s official debut album. This means Metallica is eligible for “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” starting this year. Unfortunately, they are yet to be nominated to receive the honor.

“Death Magnetic” is tentatively scheduled for release in September 2008. Would Metallica be able to regain the respect they once had? I guess for those who care have to wait until September. So far, the reviews have been good for Metallica. The way it goes right now, we all be treated to a great album from a legendary band named Metallica.

UPDATE:
I’d rather read a phonebook rather than reading or listening to Don Reisinger. He doesn’t even do any fact checking to anything he writes. Don Reisinger, you are no better than Paul Thurrott or even Rob Enderle. Next time please think before you start typing just to get page hits.

The tubes were were somewhat filled with people wasting their hate towards Metallica since the story first broke. “Metallica hates the internet, told bloggers to take down reviews of their work in progress.” I completely para-phrased the sentence, but the message remains the same.

Ars Technica then picked up the story quoting a blog that quoted another blog, originally titled: “Metallica to Bloggers: Don’t Review Our Music!”

The “internet” went wild. Comments on social news site such as Digg and Reddit clearly shows that Metallica is still the public internet enemy number one. Even CNET’s Don Reisinger took the chance out of his busy day bashing Metallica. CNET? Wait, didn’t they get bought out by CBS for one and a half billion dollars? The same CNET that employs so called journalists that treated rumors as facts?

Reisinger, whose last name is just as confusing to pronounce like Kim Basinger’s, quoted Ars Technica’s article. That’s great. CNET’s Reisinger quoted Ars Technica’s article which was quoting a blog that quoted the original blog. WOW!

Meanwhile, Ars Technica updated their article including official statement from Metallica regarding the matter. It turns out that Metallica’s management company QPrime acted without the band’s consent.

Who knows what the real story is. It doesn’t make sense for Metallica, the most hated band on the internet to do such things. People should give them the benefit of the doubt instead of turning into a 13 year old and start declaring their hatred towards Metallica. Sad but true, a lot of people who commented on Digg and Reddit are about 13 years old.

Being a journalist means reporting the news objectively, do not include any personal feelings toward the story. By adding personal feelings, it becomes opinion. I’m pretty sure that Reisinger’s colleague Molly Wood was having a field day regarding this matter. Then again, she might have gone to journalism school, but she doesn’t act like one. I stopped listening to any CNET’s podcasts long ago when they are reporting rumors as news.

CNET, you’re still unforgiven.

As for Metallica, this record better be good because you are walking on thin ice. Lars Ulrich made enemies during the Napster fiasco. Metallica made ruins lots of ears with St. Anger sound. This new record is your third chance, Metallica. Do not make the world be in anger with you.

Aloha, Friend!

Bender Bending Rodriguez here, better known as the Robot King. Did you know that the Hawaiian word “Aloha” can mean both “hello” and “goodbye”? However, in the following usage, it only means goodbye. Aloha, jerk!

…and then some

I visited the office of the people who sold the “Beverly Hills Chihuahua” script to Disney. I told them how my jaw dropped in disbelief the first time I saw the trailer on YouTube through Reddit. They admitted that the trailer Disney put out is somewhat misleading.

Anyhow, I did mention Tom Rinks, Taco Bell, and Carlos Alazraqui to them. In a funny coincidence, these people are Seth McFarlane’s management company. As many of us know that Seth McFarlane is the creator of Family Guy. I did mentioned to them that Carlos Alazraqui was the voice of Taco Bell Chihuahua and Family Guy’s own Mr. Weed. Small world.

YouTube Mobile

I just noticed it today, that YouTube Mobile has gone live. On iPhone, youTube videos will automatically open in YouTube app.

The warning is pretty funny.

Information:

YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application. We highly recommend that you upgrade to an unlimited data plan with your mobile service provider to avoid additional charges.

Dear Disney, What The ASDF Are You Thinking?

Pixar won’t save Disney this time because it has nothing to do with Pixar. Enter “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”, an abomination of a movie.

Apparently Disney has the idea that talking Chihuahua is the next big thing. Wait a minute, Tom Rinks wants his idea back. Is this 1995 all over again? Taco Bell Chihuahua, remember him?

The next time I talk to Carlos Alazraqui, I’d for sure bring this up.
