The bent pins

A few days a go my colleague and I were working on a computer which was having some odd problems. During the trouble shooting, I noticed something with the CPU socket.

At a glance, there’s nothing wrong with the CPU socket, but upon a much closer inspection you can see where the problem is.

Two pins were bent out of shape. It might be causing the computer to randomly crash.

Corsair H60 High-Performance Hydro CPU-Cooler

I had the pleasure installing Corsair H60 High-Performance Hydro CPU-Cooler on one of the Core i7 machine a few days ago. The performance is pretty impressive, the temperature of the Intel Core i7 950 is at between 24 to 41 degree Celsius. Definitely recommend this CPU Cooling system if you’re willing to shell out roughly $90.

Windows 7 Experience Index on 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro Core i7.

I finished installing Windows 7 on 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro Core i7 through Boot Camp early this morning. Why you asked? Because there’s a specific audio software that would run on Windows. I tried using virtualization within Mac OS X but it performed so poorly. I did upgrade the RAM to 8GB.

Anyway, here’s the Experience Index:

Apple Introduces New iMac with Sandy Bridge CPU and Thunderbolt port.

As expected, Apple introduces two new models of iMac with Sandy Bridge CPU and Thunderbolt port. Both ready to ship 21.5-inch and 27-inch models come with Quad-Core Intel Core i5. Option for Quad-Core Intel Core i7 is available for custom order.

Notably, the 27-inch model comes with two Thunderbolt ports which enable the iMac to support simultaneous two external monitors.

Other notable features:

  • AMD Radeon 6750M and 6770M Graphics with 512MB of GDDR5 memory for the 21.5-inch and 27-inch model.
  • AMD Radeon 6770M Graphics with 512MB of GDDR5 Memory, 6970M Graphics with 1GBof GDDR5 Memory and 6970M Graphics with 2GB of GDDR5 Memory for the 27-inch model.
  • FaceTime HD camera.
  • SDXC card slot.

Apple debuts new MacBook Pro models with Intel Core i5 and i7.

Apple finally introduces 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models with Intel Core i5 and i7. The 15-inch and 17-inch models come with nVidia 330M and Intel HD Graphics. Apple includes automatic graphics switching between the Intel HD Graphics and nVidia 330M. According to report by AppleInsider, nVidi confirms that the fast graphics switching is not Optimus technology.

13-inch MacBook Pro models come with nVidia 320M while still sporting Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

The 15-inch model is also available with higher resolution display at 1680-by-1050 pixels.
