Troubleshooting WordPress Instalations

I upgraded WordPress installation to version 2.6.5 shortly after it was released. Thanks to “WordPress Auto Upgrade” plugin, the process couldn’t get any easier.

All was well until I found out that I have lost the “visual editor” somewhere along the upgrade. I found the solutions in WordPress.org forums. I finally got the visual editor working again.

In addition to that I found out another solution to a different problem. I have initially installed a WordPress blog using Yahoo! Web-Hosting control panel. After an upgrade to version 2.5, I still couldn’t log on to the blog isn’t WordPress iPhone App. It turns out that some extra blank lines in one of Yahoo!-provided plugins caused the error. So if you’re using a Yahoo!- installed WordPress blog, you might want to edit out the blank lines at the end of “Customizable Permanent Link” plugin. Check other plugins too if necessary for the blank lines at the end of the file.

Installing WordPress 2.6

WordPress 2.6 has just been released, and I hastily upgraded the self-hosted blog from version 2.5.1 to version 2.6 after I backed up the database first.

The upgrade process took about 10 minutes to complete, including the uploading new WordPress 2.6 files to the server. It could’ve been faster, but for some reason the web-host incoming FTP is pretty slow.

Before upgrading, I turned of any caching plugins.

Overall, the upgrade process is painless. Don’t forget to clear your browser cache after upgrading to WordPress 2.6.

p.s. WordPress Apps for the iPhone is coming soon, but there’s no ETA given yet.

Why I am not reading your blog.

I wouldn’t be reading your blog or articles anytime soon because:

  • You are posting something with title started with “Why I am not buying (something specific).”
Why should anyone cares that you’re not going to be buying something that is actually newsworthy. Personally I’m more interested in reading about the actual product you’re gonna be buying. For example: “Why I am not buying Nikon DSLR.” Blah blah blah blah Canon DSLR.
In the name of whatever you believe in, stop whoring Nikon DSLR (in this example) just to say that you like Canon DSLR (once again, this is only an example). This means you’re just flame-baiting.
  • You’re presenting rumors as facts, then bitch about it. They are rumors!
  • You’re Robert Scoble, Molly Wood, and Paul Thurrott.

End of this rant.

  • Better performance for those who have many categories
  • Media Uploader fixes
  • An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • Widget Administration fixes
  • Various usability improvements

I am upgrading my blog to WordPress 2.5.1 as I am writing this post. The first thing I did was backing up the WordPress database before attempting the upgrade.
