LogMeIn Client for Mac OS X: Problem and Solution

A few weeks ago I wrote about LogMeIn Client support on Mac OS X. It has been working for the past 3 weeks without any problems. During a chat on Leo Laporte’s Radio Show chat, someone mentioned that he was not able to use LogMeIn Client on Mac OS X using Mozilla Firefox 2. I mentioned that I had been accessing LogMeIn Client using Safari and it had been working fine. A few minutes later, he informed me that he’s still having the same problem using Safari. I then found out that I was having the same problem.

The problem:
The remote access screen turns black when connecting to the remote computer.

The solution:
Do not open the remote connection in new window.

I will post a much more comprehensive instructions with some screen captures. Please check back.

Leo Laporte’s KFI Radio Show Enters Syndications

Congratulations to Leo Laporte for having his KFI radio show syndications (01.26.2007). Laporte has been talking about trying to get his radio show syndicated on and off the air. For sure he will be talking about it again on his radio show today with all the good news.
From Leo Laporte @ TWiT.tv:
http://www.twit.tv/2007/01/26/kfi_radio_show_is_being_syndicated

“I’m pleased to announce that Premiere Radio Networks – the biggest radio syndicator in the US – has picked up my KFI radio show for syndication. We’re signing up affiliates now, so ask your local talk radio station to give Premiere a call. KFI listeners: the show will continue exactly as always. There just will be a few more people listening in.”

Apple iPhone: Scott Bourne Might Know Something

AppleInsider is reporting one interesting tidbit about Apple iPhone. Apple Insider is quoting CNBC analyst Jim Cramer that Cingular/AT&T would give 18 months of service for free with the purchase of Apple iPhone to lure Verizon Wireless customers.

From Jim Cramer’s TheStreet.com article:

Cramer said AT&T is one of the most interesting stories coming out of the tech period. In its call, the company made it very clear that it’s going to use Apple’s iPhone to get customers from Verizon Wireless by giving away its service for a year and a half to those customers who buy the phone.

Verizon Wireless customers only? What about Cingular customers? I already have service with Cingular. I WANT MY FREE SERVICE!

I can only hope that Scott Bourne is right. Bourne mentioned in MacBreak Weekly 26 he heard some rumors that the price for the Apple iPhone would include some service.

You can listen to MacBreak Weekly 26 at time-marker 27:25 for Scott Bourne’s comments.

I know this is somewhat a wishful thinking on my part. Should it be true, this would certainly drive up Apple iPhone adoption rate. I hope that Cingular would at least give the data service for free or at a severely discounted rate.

One could only hope – but it sounds too good to be true!

Apple Releases “Security Update 2007-001”

Apple releases “Security Update 2007-001” to address QuickTime 7.1.3 vulnerability.
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n61798
The update is available for QuickTime 7.1.3 on Mac OS X v10.3.9, Mac OS X Server v10.3.9, Mac OS X v10.4.8, Mac OS X Server v10.4.8, Windows XP/2000.

Security Update 2007-001 (Mac OS X 10.4.8 Universal)4.9MB
Security Update 2007-001 (Mac OS X 10.3.9)2.4MB

From Apple Support:

Security Update 2007-001 is recommended for all users and improves QuickTime security.

Description: A buffer overflow exists in QuickTime’s handling of RTSP URLs. By enticing a user to access a maliciously-crafted RTSP URL, an attacker can trigger the buffer overflow, which may lead to arbitrary code execution. A QTL file that triggers this issue has been published on the Month of Apple Bugs web site (MOAB-01-01-2007). This update addresses the issue by performing additional validation of RTSP URLs.

The update can be obtained through Apple Software Updates (Mac OS X and Windows XP/2000) or Apple Support Downloads page.
