Global Gaming Factory X Acquires The Pirate Bay. Is this an April Fools in June?

So this is news, a big news. MarketWatch reports that The Pirate Bay has been acquired by Global Gaming Factory X. I really thought that this is some kind of prank from The Pirate Bay, but why would MarketWatch picked this up?

The Pirate Bay: alloursharearebelongtoyou

From MarketWatch article:

GGF acquires domain names and related web sites, including http://www.thepiratebay.org. The consideration for the purchase amounts to MSEK 60 consisting of at least MSEK 30 in cash and up to the equivalent of MSEK 30 in the form of newly issued shares in GGF (according to valuation in connection with the completion of the acquisition). The stock share of the purchase price is expected to be equivalent to a maximum of three per cent of the total number of outstanding shares of GGF after the acquisition. In the case that three percent of the shares is not equivalent to 30 MSEK, the major shareholder of GGF has declared that he will contribute the equivalent in cash.

What does this really mean???????

From GGF site:

Acquisitions of The Pirate Bay and new file sharing technology, P2P 2.0
– Pave the way for compensation model
The listed software company, Global Gaming Factory X AB (publ) (GGF) acquires The Pirate Bay website, http://www.thepiratebay.org, one of the 100 most visited websites in the world and the technology company Peerialism, that has developed next generation file-sharing technology. Following the completion of the acquisitions, GGF intends to launch new business models that allow compensation to the content providers and copyright owners. The responsibility for, and operation of the site will be taken over by GGF in connection with closing of the transaction, which is scheduled for August 2009.

“We would like to introduce models which entail that content providers and copyright owners get paid for content that is downloaded via the site” said Hans Pandeya, CEO GGF.

“The Pirate Bay is a site that is among the top 100 most visited Internet sites in the world. However, in order to live on, The Pirate Bay requires a new business model, which satisfies the requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary. Content creators and providers need to control their content and get paid for it. File sharers’ need faster downloads and better quality” continues Hans Pandeya.

We’ll find out sooner or later.

There will be a lot of people bailing of The Pirate Bay ship.

Faster Than The Speed Of Light.

Something that is faster than the speed of light? That’s a bull-pie! Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. That’s why scientists increased the speed of light in 2208.

It might be some wacky comedy from Futurama, but a scientist has created radio waves that travels faster than the speed of light. John Singleton the scientist (not the movie director) has achieved that.

Something that is faster than the speed of light. I want my Sub-Space Communication along with Warp Drive, Transporter and Replicator. Wait a minute, that’s from Star Trek.

Anyway, Albert Einstein would be so proud.

Starting this early in the morning, and kinda bored by the news.

Missing a lot of news items for the past weeks, and still have a few in draft mode. A lot of things are happening today.

iPhone 3GS: The First Seven Days

iPhone 3G S officially went on sale on Friday June 19th, 2009. Three days later, Steve Jobs is reported to clock in for work for the first time after his medical leave of absence. Strangely, the iPhone 3G S was renamed to iPhone 3GS on the same day. From this then on, it shall be known as iPhone 3GS.

Things that I discovered after using iPhone 3GS for the first seven days:

  • The iPhone 3GS in general is much faster than the iPhone and iPhone 3G.
  • iPhone 3GS renders a considerably complex web page faster on 3G than iPhone/iPhone 3G on a Wi-Fi. I was on a fast network. This shows the processing power of the iPhone 3GS CPU. This makes web-browsing a much more pleasant experience on iPhone 3GS.
  • I really like the “tap-to-focus” feature. This is one feature that should be implemented in digital camera and camcorders.
  • I never cared for recording video using any phones before. Now I can’t stop using it on the iPhone 3GS. OK, I was wrong before.
  • The Compass doesn’t work well in the car. Too much electromagnetic interference.
  • Battery life is noticeably better than the iPhone 3G.
  • There are still some lags when switching from landscape to portrait and vice-versa. Could it be the hardware design that caused this?
  • The speaker is noticeably louder.
  • Voice Control works well with the phone but not with the iPod function.
  • Physically iPhone 3GS is identical with iPhone 3G, so all the cases and screen protectors can be used with both.
