Galaxy Nexus Billboard

I was in Long beach, California earlier today and spotted a Galaxy Nexus billboard. I’m not sure how long the billboard has been there. Google is selling Galaxy Nexus in two main flavors, CDMA and GSM. The billboard features Verizon Wireless logo while Google is directly selling GSM Galaxy Nexus on Google Play.

Countdown to MobileMe Extinction, T-Minus 27 Days.

MobileMe service is scheduled to end on June 30th, 2012 and users (read: subscribers) are encouraged to move their account to iCloud. Individual MobileMe account came with 20 GB of email and iDisk combined storage. iCloud comes with 5 GB of free storage for iOS backup and Email. That’s not a lot of storage if you had multiple iOS devices (and Macs with OS X Lion or newer). Apple is giving MobileMe users complimentary iCloud storage upgrade after the move.

MobileMe members with 20GB of purchased storage receive a complimentary iCloud storage upgrade of 20GB, and accounts with additional purchased storage (40GB to 60GB) receive a complimentary upgrade of 50GB after moving to iCloud. These free upgrades are good through September 30th, 2012. After that date, you can continue the upgrade at the regular price or let it expire and use the free 5GB plan.

One thing MobileMe should be aware of is the size of their mailbox should they choose not to purchase additional iCloud storage: the size of the mailbox. Clean up your mailbox before moving to iCloud or September 30th, 2012.

TDSS Rootkit

A client called me because one of the office computer “was not working.”

Well, the problem was much severe than described. It suffered from multiple malware infections. As usual, I used numbers of applications to detect and remove the malware. I also noted that this computer is unable to download any Windows Update.

So, the system is infected with TDSS Rootkit.

The next step is to download Kaspersky Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller.

I made sure to “Change parameters” and select the option to detect TDSS file system.

After a reboot, Windows is able to download and install updates.

One MobileMe feature that didn’t make it to iCloud is iDisk. When June 30th, 2012 came and went, anything you stored in your iDisk would be gone. You should copy copy all of your iDisk content before MobileMe ends.

Go to MobileMe System Preferences pane to see how much space you used on your iDisk.

If you have not moved your MobileMe account to iCloud at this time you must have a good reason. Most likely because not all your devices are iCloud compatible. MobileMe email will still be working with non-iCloud-ready devices after June 30th, 2012.

iCloud requires iOS 5, OS X Lion, Windows 7 or Vista SP 2. If you can’t upgrade, you can keep using your mail on incompatible devices.

Anyway, to wean everyone from those cute and adorable photos of kittens, take a look at the following photo of Lola and Ko’a.
