Software Updates: Handbrake and VLC

Handbrake 0.9.8

We’ve decided to push out another release to fix some bugs that cropped up with 0.9.7. This includes all the previous fixes for 0.9.6 including the new AppleTV3 preset and updated iPad preset.

VLC 2.0.3

VideoLAN and the VLC development are proud to present a minor update adding support for OS X Mountain Lion as well as improving VLC’s overall stability on OS X. Additionally, this version includes updates for 18 translations and adds support for Uzbek and Marathi. For MS Windows, VLC 2.0.2 remains the latest release.

Nexus 7, The Arrival.

UPS dropped off a package at the office about an hour ago. Well, it is a relatively small package. Yep, it’s the Nexus 7. I promised that I would’t be doing any unboxing stuff, so I won’t. In addition to that, I still have a few things to work on. I’ll save the Nexus 7 for later tonight.

Hax-o-rama!

NVIDIA Forums (forums.nvidia.com) was recently hacked.

Posted July 12, 2012

NVIDIA suspended operations of the NVIDIA Forums (forums.nvidia.com) last week.

We did this in response to suspicious activity and immediately began an investigation. We apologize that our continuing investigation is taking this long. Know that we are working around the clock to ensure that secure operations can be restored.
Our investigation has identified that unauthorized third parties gained access to some user information, including:

  • username
  • email address
  • hashed passwords with random salt value
  • public-facing “About Me” profile information

NVIDIA did not store any passwords in clear text. “About Me” optional profiles could include a user’s title, age, birthdate, gender, location, interests, email and website URL – all of which was already publicly accessible.

Earlier on Thursday, username and passwords from multiple services were stolen. It’s a Hax-o-rama Thursday.
