Amazon Terminates Associates Program in California.

Amazon.com sends termination notices to its California Associates program members as Governor Jerry Brown signed the law that requires online retailers to collect sales taxes even though they don’t have any physical presence in California.

Hello,
Unfortunately, Governor Brown has signed into law the bill that we emailed you about earlier today. As a result of this, contracts with all California residents participating in the Amazon Associates Program are terminated effective today, June 29, 2011. Those California residents will no longer receive advertising fees for sales referred to Amazon.com, Endless.com, MYHABIT.COM or SmallParts.com.

Would you still purchase products from Amazon if they were charging Sales Tax?

iPhone Celebrates Fourth Birthday.

iPhone 4 went on sale on June 29th, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. local time in the United States. iPhone was available in a 4GB model for $499 and an 8GB model for $599 initially.

Subsequently Apple released iPhone 3G in 2008, iPhone 3GS in 2009 and iPhone 4 in 2010. Apple is expected to release the next generation of iPhone sometimes in late 2011. While many speculate that the next iPhone might get a new design, our sources said that it will retain similar iPhone 4 form factor. Curiously, our sources never used the moniker “iPhone 5” to describe the next iPhone. Back in December 2010, one particular source mentioned that there would be no new iPhone during WWDC 2011. It turned ut to be true. To answer a particular question, our particular source is not Phil Schiller.

Happy 4th birthday, iPhone.

Farewell to a friend.

Our good friend Dave passed away last Thursday and we had a funeral earlier today. Dave was gadget enthusiast who had been introducing a lot of mobile phones to us for the past 5 years. There were the Nokia, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and many other phones he purchased and let us use. In 2007, Dave gave one of the phones to a friend who had her phone broken without even asking anything in return.

We all miss you Dave.
