Microsoft sends a clear message to Google by filing a formal complaint with the European Commission, accusing Google of antitrust violation. To summarize, with regard to anititrust behavior Microsoft is telling Google: “Hey, that’s our job to be anti-competitive.”
Apple releases Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.
Reports are coming in as Apple seeds Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2. As usual, those who honor Apple Developer NDA are tight-lipped about the update.
Google +1
What is Google +1?
It’s called +1—the digital shorthand for “this is pretty cool.”
So far, I have not seen any +1 buttons within the result of Google Search. It has yet gone live.
Amazon Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, Web and Android only.
Amazon introduces Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, for Web and Android.
Features:
- 5GB of free Cloud Drive storage.
- Any purchases made from Amazon MP3 Store are stored for free.
Set aside the whole licensing issue that Record Labels might bring up, Amazon Cloud Drive and Cloud Player are great for consumer. Amazon can sweeten the deal by selling CD+MP3 together. If you bought the CD+MP3 bundle, you could listen the songs instantly. In addition to that, this would give consumer more incentive for pre-order and react instantly whenever CD’s are leaked on the Internet.
Now, what about other platform, Amazon?
WWDC 2011 is set for June 6-10, 2011.
Apple has set Worldwide Developer Conference date on June 6 through 10, 2011.
Apple has sold out all the $1599 WWDC 2011 tickets in record 10 hours.
To quote Phil Schiller:
“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
Some interpret that iOS 5.0 will be previewed during WWDC 2011 but not the next iPhone hardware.
We first heard the news about iPhone 5 back in March 19th and immediately tweeted:
March 19th, 2011
There will be no #iPhone5 announcement at #Apple #WWDC 2011. It is all about Mac OS X Lion. September 2011 for iPhone 5 in time for Holiday.
Our source told us that WWDC 2011 was about Mac OS X Lion and there would be no “the next iPhone” hardware announcement. Our source hinted that there will be iPhone just in time for the holiday. We assume the announcement would come around September 2011. We are confident that our source who is definitely not Phil Schiller gave us a pretty accurate information.
For more information, head to WWDC 2011 page.
Glympse
One App I get to use this weekend is Glympse. I get to send updates of my travel progress automatically, providing I have internet connections on my AT&T account.
I did travel on I-5 for the trip.
Glympse is available for Android devices and iPhone/iPad and Windows Mobile 6.x. Internet access is required.
Some Kind of Educated Guesses: iOS 5 and iPhone 5
Some sites are picking up a report by TechCrunch that Apple is pushing iOS 5 release to Fall 2011.
In fact, the plan right now is to wait to launch iOS 5 until the fall, we’ve heard from two solid sources.
Is this a new information?
Not really.
March 19th, 2011
There will be no #iPhone5 announcement at #Apple #WWDC 2011. It is all about Mac OS X Lion. September 2011 for iPhone 5 in time for Holiday.
It is likely that Apple would introduce iOS 5.0 during WWDC 2011, alongside with everything Mac OS X Lion. It seems that Apple has been planning iPhone 5 release in September 2011 before the introduction of CDMA iPhone 4. Nine months are long enough for a new CDMA iPhone alongside the GSM iPhone.

Train of thoughts:
Apple released iPhone for Verizon back in January 2011 and many questioned what Apple would do on WWDC 2011 this Summer. Would Apple unveil the next iPhone, six month after the release of CDMA iPhone 4? Since 2007 Apple has been releasing new model of iPhone in June or July. Would 2011 be different?
In February 2011, some sites intrepreted John Gruber’s guesses that iPad 3 is coming in September 2011. It then became news in the Apple world. Right after the introduction of iPad 2, the rumor of iPad 3 in September 2011 was marked as false; for Apple called 2011 “The year of iPad 2.”
Fast forward to March 25th, 2011; which is yesterday. TechCrunch’s MG Siegler reported that Apple is readying Mac OS X Lion for release around WWDC 2011. MAC OS X Lion build 11A390 was seeded to registered Mac Developers on February 24th, 2011. Historically, Apple would release several builds of its upcoming Mac OS X before the Golden Master. One month after the release of Mac OS X Lion, Apple has yet to release any updates to the Developer Preview. It is likely that Mac OS X Lion would see the release this WWDC. Should Apple release Mac OS X Lion this WWDC, then would Apple also introduce iPhone 5? Probably not.
Selected iPhone and iOS chronology:
- The first iPhone was announce at MacWorld San Francisco on January 9th and went on sale on June 29th, 2007.
- Both iPhone 3G and iPhone OS 2.0 were announced at WWDC 2008 on June 9th and released July 11th, 2008.
- iPhone OS 3.0 was announced on March 16th, 2009 and released on June 17th, 2009.
- iPhone 3GS was announced at WWDC 2009 on June 8th and went on sale on June 19th, 2009.

- iPhone 4 was introduced on June 7th, 2010 and went on sale on June 24th, 2010.
As of March 26th, 2011 Apple has yet announced anything related to iOS 5. Will there be previews of iOS 5.0 in late March or early April this year? Only Apple knows.
