{"id":11550,"date":"2014-06-26T23:33:44","date_gmt":"2014-06-27T06:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/37prime.wordpress.com\/?p=11550"},"modified":"2014-06-26T23:33:44","modified_gmt":"2014-06-27T06:33:44","slug":"t-mobile-test-drive-day-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/2014\/06\/26\/t-mobile-test-drive-day-one\/","title":{"rendered":"T-Mobile Test Drive: Day One"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Received T-Mobile Test Drive kit on Wednesday afternoon, June 25, 2014.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14123\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_2718.jpg\" alt=\"T-Mobile Test Drive kit\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Test Drive Kit includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gold 64GB iPhone 5s with nano-SIM pre-installed<\/li>\n<li>Apple EarPod with mic and remote<\/li>\n<li>Apple 5 Watt USB Charger<\/li>\n<li>Apple Lightning Cable<\/li>\n<li>Manual<\/li>\n<li>Terms &amp; Conditions booklet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14124\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_2724.jpg\" alt=\"T-Mobile Test Drive kit, iPhone 5s\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wonder what T-Mobile \/ Apple would do with the EarPod after it is being used.\u00a0Remember, I have to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/explore.t-mobile.com\/test-drive-free-trial\" target=\"_blank\">return the Test Drive kit<\/a>\u00a0at after the seventh day.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>T-Mobile Test Drive is free with no obligation to buy, but if the iPhone 5s comes back with a cracked screen, damaged screen display, water damage, active Find My iPhone feature, or can&#8217;t be powered on we have to charge a $100 damage fee. If you don&#8217;t return the device, we have to charge $699.99 plus applicable taxes.<\/p>\n<p>A hold for $699.99 + taxes will be placed on your credit or debit card. The timing of releasing that hold will vary by credit card company. We won&#8217;t charge your card unless you fail to return the device.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the interesting part: a 64GB unlocked iPhone 5s retails for $849 + taxes at Apple Store. Should I choose to keep the 64GB iPhone 5s from the Test Drive kit, it would have cost me $699 + taxes. That is $150 cheaper than Apple Store price.<\/p>\n<p>I already have an unlocked 64GB iPhone 5s, courtesy of firstnameatappledotcom. I don&#8217;t think I would want to buy one anytime soon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14125\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Gold-Unlocked-64GB-iPhone-5s.jpg\" alt=\"Gold Unlocked 64GB iPhone 5s\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For 24-hour period I used the iPhone 5s on T-Mobile network and performed Speed Test using\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.speedtest.net\/mobile\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ookla\u00a0SpeedTest.net app<\/a>. Bear in mind, these tests\u00a0were\u00a0not done scientifically. In that 24-hour period I spent some times at the following locations in Southern California:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Long Beach, Downtown and 2nd Street<\/li>\n<li>Fullerton and Placentia<\/li>\n<li>Costa Mesa and Newport Beach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I noticed that T-Mobile network performed exceptionally well in the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach area; 74.99 Mbps download and 25.43 Mbps upload peak test result. T-Mobile has the best network around my office desk, beating out AT&amp;T, Sprint and Verizon.\u00a0T-Mobile\u00a0might have secretly installed a cell tower a few feet from me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14126\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_0012.jpg\" alt=\"SpeedTest,net T-Mobile Costa Mesa, Newport Beach\" width=\"640\" height=\"1136\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Somewhere in the Fullerton \/ Placentia area, Verizon seems to have the best network; beating T-Mobile and AT&amp;T. Sorry for the slightly blurry picture, it&#8217;s the only one I have.<\/p>\n<p>iPhone 5s on Verizon LTE network has an impressive 40.77 Mbps download speed compared to 13.48 Mbps and 9.92 Mbps for T-Mobile and AT&amp;T, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14127\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_2745.jpg\" alt=\"iPhone 5s on T-Mobile, AT&amp;T, and Verizon\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Downtown Long Beach area, AT&amp;T\u00a0hits\u00a08.88 Mbps download speed\u00a0while\u00a0T-Mobile\u00a0hits 20.55 Mbps.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14128\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_0582.png\" alt=\"Speed Test Long Beach Downtown AT&amp;T\" width=\"640\" height=\"1136\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14129\" src=\"http:\/\/37prime.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/IMG_0014.jpg\" alt=\"Speed Test Long Beach Downtown T-Mobile\" width=\"640\" height=\"1136\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What do these all mean?<\/p>\n<p>I can certainly say that I would not mind switching carrier.\u00a0Six more days to go.<\/p>\n<p>p.s.
